NordicTrack T4.0 Treadmill Review

iFit SD card reader built into the console

Made by Icon Health and Fitness. Uses low end components embedded in cheap metal frames and wrapped with a lot of plastic. These treadmills are targeted to consumers looking for an attractive plastic wrapped treadmill. Consider it treadmill infused with Botox.

NordicTrack treadmills are probably a name that most people are familiar with. NordicTrack Treadmills are mid-priced machines manufactured by ICON Fitness. When you look at NordicTrack treadmills you’ll see that they are mainly targeted to people that are ready to make a commitment to fitness, but that might get bored easily.

What we mean by this is that NordicTrack treadmills tend to have a lot of cool features that will keep you interested and focused. The T4.0 has some great features that will get you smiling.

For example, the T4.0 has great features for tracking weight loss. It has an iFit SD card reader built into the console, so you can do various Personal Trainer Workouts that are on SD cards. These workouts basically adjust the speed and incline for you, designed by Personal Trainers at Icon Fitness. The only drawback is that you have to buy them separately, and they are about $30 each. The iFit SD Cards are NOT the same as iFit LIVE. It’s not something you really need though, because there are already 6 preset weight loss workouts and 6 preset performance workouts with time entry adjustments included in the console. But they are still trying to push this as the main feature that will make it worth spending all your money on this T4.0.

This is an example of cool features that we previously mentioned. There are other things that are nice too. There is iPod and MP3 compatibility, and the speakers are pretty decent. It also folds to save space when not in use, and it has heart rate monitor grips.

However, there are some things that are lacking that matter more to us than fancy features. NordicTrack always tries to sell their features as high end, just by giving it a catchy name, but it doesn’t change what it actually is. For example, there is a “Mach Z 2.25 CHP Commercial Drive Motor” which is labelled that way to try to emphasize the power. But you can’t change the fact that it is still ONLY a 2.25 CHP motor. NordicTrack definitely could have afforded a more powerful motor for the T4.0 model. Names like “Mach Z” “SoftFlex” and EKG Heart Rate Monitor are added just to make it more appealing to the novice runner. The running surface is okay, but at 18″ x 55″ you can find more comfort on other treadmills that will give you extra width and length on the belt.

The console display is pretty standard, it has 3 displays inside 1 large LCD window. The monitor shows all the normal things such as time, distance, speed, incline, calories, pace, heart rate and also laps. The incline and speed go up to 10% and 10mph, respectively. The NordicTrack T4.0 treadmill clocks in at nearly $2000, but it’s not near worth that. You can find other treadmills with the same specs for a more reasonable price if you do some more research. Mainly, we would expect a more stable running surface and a more powerful motor for a treadmill at this price.
