Life Fitness T5-5 Treadmill Review

Good and recognizable brand

Finally a model we liked in the Life Fitness lineup.

The T5-5 is one of Life Fitness’ best residential treadmills so we had a little higher hope for this treadmill than their other models. In our thorough review of the advantages and disadvantages of the T5-5, this is what we found:

Life Fitness T5-5 Treadmill – PROS

  • Decent 3.0 continuous horsepower motor
  • Maximum running speed of 12 mph
  • Maximum incline range of 15%
  • Large 22” x 60” cushioned running area
  • Large variety of pre-programmed and custom workouts

Life Fitness T5-5 Treadmill – CONS

  • Lacking hand contact heart rate monitor
  • Lacks added features such as MP3 compatibility

What We Think On Life Fitness T5-5 Treadmill

The Life Fitness T5-5 is one of the better residential models Life Fitness has to offer, but at a price tag to match. It comes with a decent 3.0 CHP horsepower motor that powers a maximum running speed of 12 mph and a maximum incline range of 15%. Unlike many of the lower level Life Fitness treadmills, the T5-5 comes equipped with a roomy 22” x 60” cushioned running area. Add to this the fact that the maximum user capacity is 400lbs makes this a great treadmill for larger runners. Indeed, even the tallest of runners will have little difficulty with their stride lengths thanks to the 60” long running deck. Although we found this all fine and dandy, for the price of this treadmill – it’s nothing spectacular. This is especially true when compared to the True ES900 treadmill – by far the best performing treadmill on the market. For a little more cash, the ES900 puts the T5-5 to shame.

Despite the only average hardware specs, the T5-5 does have some neat workout features. With 15 pre-programmed workouts as well as 7 customized My Workout programs, the T5-5 will have something for everyone from beginners to more advanced runners. Unfortunately when it comes to other add-on features the Life Fitness T5-5 is greatly lacking. For instance, although it’s included in the lower tier models of their treadmills, the T5-5 lacks both MP3 compatibility as well as hand grip heart rate monitors. Although these may not be important features for some, we had to question why they’d remove them from such an expensive unit. Again, we recommend opting for the ES900 which features the latest in treadmill technology with features you won’t grow tired of.

When it comes to the overall quality of the T5-5, it is better than many of their cheaper models. However, for the much higher price that can only be expected. When placing the T5-5 up against the ES900, it’s easy to notice the poor overall performance of the Life Fitness treadmill. This is due to the cheaper parts used to manufacture the treadmill.

In conclusion, although the T5-5 is one of Life Fitness’ better treadmills, given its high cost and low quality construction we’d have to recommend you pass on it. If you’re looking for a commercial grade treadmill built using high-quality parts at a residential treadmill cost, we recommend you look into the True ES900. It’s an award winning treadmill granted in parts to its solid performance as well as its top-notch customer service and support. Although the cost is a little higher than the T5.5, it’s well worth the investment.
