Horizon T101 Treadmill Review

Reliable Treadmill, great basic treadmill with nice features

Not recommended for runners, good starter or senior treadmill

The T101 Treadmill comes in as one of our Best Buys. It wins the category of Entry Level treadmills, because at this price point, this is one of the sturdiest treadmills available. Another notable feature is the large running surface, which is not too common when comparing treadmills at this price level.

Horizon T101 Best Buy

The Horizon T101 treadmill has the great ability to fold it up for easier storage. This frame is very strong, coming with an up to 300-pound weight capacity. While you might not find yourself even pushing close to that number, what it means is when you are running, you are not going to feel a lot of shake or motion when it comes to the treadmill. You are going to be running on a sturdy surface, something very important, especially during the long Canadian winters.

Here are some of the other features that might draw you into the Horizon T101 treadmill:

  • The 2.25 CHP motor is more than you will get with the majority of treadmills in the Entry Level category
  • 9 program options that allows you to choose one of three targets (Time, Distance, Calories) to keep you well-motivated
  • Sonic Surround speakers with MP3 compatibility
  • PerfectFLEX cushioning absorbs shock and provides support
  • Large running surface will accommodate taller users and a running stride
  • FeatherLIGHT folding system makes it easy to lift and fold or unfold, making it easy to save a little bit of space

Although it wins our best buy stamp of approval, to be fair, we also have some negatives to list for the T101:

  • COOLfit fitness fan provides a slight breeze, but overall, is not that powerful
  • Although great for it’s price point, the speed and incline only go from 0 to 10 mph and 0-10% incline
  • Warranty is OK

There is not much else that we can point out as a negative for the T101. Overall, it is a great machine, for this price. And that’s what we will keep coming back to. It really does offer features and build qualities of some other treadmills that are priced at $1000 and up.

Going back to the motor, since this is one of the more important parts of the treadmill, at 2.25 CHP, it is enough for most users and can even support a little bit of running. Most of the time, with an entry level treadmill, they are more ideal for walking and sometimes even jogging can be pushing it. But this is not the case with the T101 treadmill. The stronger motor is going to allow more wear on the machine and allow you to work out for longer, at a higher intensity. Keep in mind, however, that if you are planning on running most of the time, there are better treadmills available, but they will fall in a higher price range.

Taking a look at the console, it looks quite nice. There are 3 orange LED windows, LED brickyard, and target/workout LED indicators. This is really all you need for a beginners treadmill. The layout is easy to read, and will help to give you feedback without providing too much unnecessary or distracting information. As mentioned earlier, there are 9 program options with 3 targets (Time, Distance, Calories) and 3 workouts (Manual, Intervals, Weight Loss) to add variety to your routine. We know this is important, especially for people that are new to using a treadmill, since it takes a while to get used to being in one place for a while, and you might get bored easily. The programs provide you with shorter goals, and visual feedback of your progress.

The folding feature is nice for those that want to save a little bit of space. It doesn’t fold up all the way, but enough to give your room some more floor space. It has a nice folding system that makes folding and unfolding very easy, as the weight of the deck is supported by the hydraulic system. Also mentioned earlier, a couple of the drawbacks of this treadmill, and almost ALL Entry Level treadmills, are the limited speed and incline ranges. But it’s VERY common that they only go up to 10mph and in fact, an incline of 10% is pretty good. Some entry level treadmills only have MANUAL incline, which means you have to stop, get off, and lift the deck by hand in order to adjust the height. So in this case, the T101 actually excels.

The T101 is at the top of the chain for entry level treadmills. You simply can’t beat the price for all the features you are getting.
