Horizon CT5.3 Treadmill – Overview
If you land on this page for the Horizon CT5.2 treadmill reviews, then chances are that you are outdated and haven’t followed the treadmill scene for awhile. On the other hand, you should consider yourself lucky because you found this review and unlike all other reviews site, we dont push you to old models.
In fact, the Horizon CT5.3 treadmill is a perfect upgrade and improved version of the old CT5.2 treadmill and right here, we are going to give you an unbiased review on it.
Just like any other CT models, CT stands for Canadian Tire – its a rebranded and retagged unit. Therefore, the Horizon CT5.3 treadmill can only be purchased exclusively at Canadian Tire (obviously). And once again, if you are a ‘smart’ shopper, you should not head for the CT series but go for the “T” series instead. T series is the regular Horizon series, which can be purchased at any other stores.
The Horizon CT5.3 treadmill is the exact unit of Horizon T101 model, but huge difference in price. The Horizon CT5.3 is priced at $2,199 at Canadian Tire (exclusively) and its usually priced under $900 at most placed. A whooping $1299 difference in price – scary right? So if you decided to purchase the CT5.3, make sure you ditch that and go for the T101 instead. Due to the popularity of ‘CT5.3’ model number, we will continue refer as that for this review, but both you and I now know that this review is meant for Horizon T101 treadmill as well.
When it comes to entry-level treadmills, no one stand a chance against them. The Horizon CT5.3 totally dominated the market for treadmill under $800, it was released in 2010, designed for entry-level users with good quality and value in mind. It brings ICON fitness machines to shame; the quality and components equipped on Welso and NordicTrack
If your budget is $800 or under, you cant go wrong with Horizon CT5.3 treadmills; It is often classifieded as a budget folding treadmill, so its definitely good vlaue; perfect for condos, apartments or if you plan to put it in a small room. It is equipped with a 2.5 CHP motor, standard 20″ x 55″ running area. It perfect for general/light users but its not built for extensive usage and heavier individuals as the frame is not as heavy as other higher end models such as AFG 7.1 etc. causing it to be a little unstable for heavier users as mention.
Unfortunately, we got more bad news for heavy individuals, because not only the frame doesnt support them, but the motor isnt as well. A 2.25CHP is meant for slimmer individuals, minor jogging and running exercises and mainly for walking purposes. What we meant by ‘heavy individuals’ for this unit is anyone who is over 230 lbs (sorry). With respect, please keep this in mind.
On the bright side, the Horizon CT 5.3 does come with some really cool features for treadmills under $800, which makes it really a very good buy. Features include LED display, MP3 docking sation and speakers and power incline. Cooling fans are optional addon and for extra fees, of course. This treadmill also comes with a heart rate monitor. Users will have to grab onto contact sensors to have heart rate read, and because of this, we do find readings not as accurate as wireless heart rate monitors. But hey, its better than nothing!
Horizon CT5.3 Treadmill – What We Say
In general, the Horizon CT5.3 / Horizon T101 treadmill is definitely a good buy for light weighted users (anyone who is under 230lbs in this case). Priced at under $800; comes with all features and functions for general users. There is nothing more you can ask for. For anyone who weights over 230 lbs, we do recommend to go with something a little higher end for durability and stability purposes such as the Horizon 202 or AFG 5.1AT would be a good option.
